We Have Arrived

Moving is brutal. I’ve moved a lot in my life (roughly every 2 years since I was born plus a few extra for good measure) so you’d think I’d remember. But each time I just stumble along like it’s my first time and end up totally overwhelmed by the task.

Morra is on to her second day at grad school – very exciting! – and I’m on to my second day working from Boston. The house is still a tornado of boxes and bags, everything is madness, and for whatever reason I’ve found particular inspiration this morning in this Slate article on Ichiro’s bizarre utterings (of my father’s beloved Mariners…):

Before facing off against Red Sox pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka in April, Ichiro said, “I hope he arouses the fire that’s dormant in the innermost recesses of my soul. I plan to face him with the zeal of a challenger.”

That’s how I feel about Boston – I hope it arouse the fire that’s dormant in the innermost recesses of my soul. I plan to face it with the zeal of a Major League Baseball star.
